How will hypnosis affect my mind?

Skilled marketing people have always known how to program our unconscious mind, leading us to buy particular brands of products, from particular stores. The constant barrage of information directed specifically at our unconscious should give rise to complaint and irritation - and it does. In our modern society our mind screams for relief, for relaxation, for more positive programming. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy works to restore the balance of mind and body.

What is hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

We all experience hypnosis daily, where our unconscious mind carries out many tasks for us. We are simply so familiar with them we take them for granted, like appearing to be present and interested in a dull business meeting, or like when we park the car after a long journey, wondering what route we took home, or when we wake just after the film to tell ourselves to go to bed. There are countless occasions every day when our unconscious helps us, guides us, and looks after our best interests.

We use hypnosis to unlock the capacity of the unconscious mind to bring about therapeutic benefit. That is, we can consciously decide to call upon the unconscious whilst completely awake, to communicate and effect a positive change.

A skilled hypnotherapist brings this about by relaxing your conscious mind, guiding you into relaxation, and allowing your own creative intelligence to do its work.

From simple suggestions, to full analytical therapy, the two main parts of our mind need to agree in order for peace to have a chance. Any phobia is a good example of when the two parts of our mind are in disagreement: the conscious mind knows the spider cannot hurt us and chastises us constantly for being so afraid, whilst the unconscious continues to do its job of protecting us from what it believes is fearful.

Can hypnotherapy help me?

Anyone with an unconscious mind can be helped, so anyone can be helped with hypnotherapy.

How does hypnosis work?

The conscious mind can be unaware of deeply seated unconscious instructions that ultimately control how we think and behave. Hypnosis opens the channels of communication between these distinct areas of the mind and healing can begin.

Why visit a hypnotherapist?

Use hypnotherapy if there is anything in your life you wish to stop (like smoking) or improve upon (like confidence).

Do I have to be referred by my G.P.?

No, although doctors do refer clients for hypnotherapy, it is certainly not a requirement for most conditions.

I have tried Self-Hypnosis and pure Willpower - Can hypnotherapy help me?

You can do this alone. However, the unconscious protects itself quite defiantly and usually wins over conscious willpower, which means that the weight goes back on, the cigarrette is lit and the situation remains unresolved. Hypnotherapy requests the unconscious mind be your greatest ally in your positive endeavours.

How will I feel afterwards?

There are many positive side effects of a hypnotherapy session. Relaxation improves, enthusiasm and self-determination increase and the client's overall outlook changes considerably, knowing they have the tools within themselves to effect the required change.

What types of problems can hypnotherapy help?

Panick Attacks , Slimming , Eating Disorders , Irrational Behaviour (eg 'Road Rage') , Insomnia

Blushing , Guilt , Lack of Confidence , Anxiety , Depression , Nightmares , Phobias , Fear of Heights

Fear of Flying , Public Speaking , Poor Self-Image , Nailbiting , Migraines , Skin Disorders

What about confidentiality?

Your confidentiality is assured at all times. Client confidentiality is paramount and is a strict requirement of my professional affiliations.

How much does it cost?

The cost of a course of hypnotherapy depends on two things, the type of therapeutic session being used, and the number of sessions required.

Will I be aware of what is going on?

Yes, you will. You will quickly realise that you can open your eyes if you feel you need to; that you yourself control the hypnotic process.

Can I be controlled?

No, everything you do under hypnosis is done voluntarily. Your ability to decide what you should and shouldn't do is unaffected.

Can I be made to do something against my will?

No, your conscious will, conscience and morals will still be present.

Is hypnosis dangerous?

Relaxation is not dangerous, and as hypnosis is merely a state of deep relaxation then it is entirely safe. You can 'break trance' whenever you wish as you will be aware that you are in charge.

How do you hypnotise a client?

The act of merely relaxing deeply takes a client into hypnosis. You will be able to do it for yourself and will want to whenever the need arises.

Can I be sure of waking up?

You will not be asleep, so you will not need to be awoken. However, you will be in an altered state of awareness should you choose to be, where your unconscious is more present than usual. In the same way that our unconscious wakes us every morning, your mind will look after you and alert you if appropriate to full conscious awareness.

How do I book an appointment?

An improved relationship between the unconscious and the conscious mind brings the body into balance, which means emotional and physical imbalances diminish. There are so many areas that can be improved, the following list is only a small selection.Use hypnotherapy if there is anything in your life you wish to stop (like smoking) or improve upon (like confidence).
